TUFF Week 12
The Pittsburgh Bulls battled history, a hostile crowd, the elements,
and the Battalion in Baltimore and still came out on top of a 37-30
score. QB Joe Monday led the Pitt Bulls effectively once again,
throwing for 325 yards and 3 TDs on 24 of 46 passing to help the
Bulls come out on top. His 63 yard touchdown pass to WR Arthur
Zorn on the game’s fourth play from scrimmage set the tone and
put his team on top for good. Pittsburgh raged their way to a 37-
16 lead early in the 4th Quarter before holding on against a late
Baltimore rally, 37-30.
The win raised the Bulls’ record to a conference best 11-1, a full
three games ahead of, the Battalion who slid to 8-4, and also gives
Pittsburgh the tiebreaker over their bitter rivals. Should Pittsburgh
hold on to their lead, it would mark the team’s first division title
since S003.
The Continental Conference’s best team, the Honolulu Islanders
briefly fell behind the San Diego Smoke, 20-19 early in the 3rd
Quarter. The Islanders rallied for 31 unanswered points to close
out the game, 50-20 however. They rallied behind QB Mars
Calixtro in the 2nd Half, who himself bounced back from three
turnovers before halftime. Honolulu stays unbeaten at 12-0.
Player of the Week:
QB Fred Kelly 28-55 427 yards 4 TD 2 Int
Cleveland Commandos
Kelly made up for his two critical first half errors by leading the team back to a
thrilling victory on the road in one of the toughest places to play in all of TUFF.
Team of the Week:
Pittsburgh Bulls
Pitt Bulls pull off a season sweep of the Battalion (when is the last time a team could
claim that?) and take a stranglehold on the brutal Atlantic division lead.
Looking Ahead
Memphis Shock (4-8) @ Baltimore Battalion (8-4)
Relative to each of their unbelievably rich histories, both teams have struggled more than ever in S013. All of that can be put aside for one week, as the two most
storied TUFF franchises meet.
Sacramento Vipers (9-3) @ Seattle Monsoon (5-7)
A win for the Snakes clinches their first ever division crown. A win for the Monsoon keeps their shrinking playoff hopes alive. Maybe.
Wisconsin Wreckers (8-4) @ Honolulu Islanders (12-0)
Yes the Wreckers are for real. But they will have to be unreal to knock off the Islanders in Hawaii.

In Seattle, the defending TUFF champs, the Chicago Skyline saw a 16-0 2nd Quarter lead
disappear. With the game tied at 19-19 late in the 4th Quarter, RB Axl Ricci pounded his
way into the endzone to put the Skyline back on top at 26-19 with 2:03 remaining. The
Monsoon drove into Chicago territory in the game’s final minute, but they were unable to
break through to tie the game.
The Sacramento Vipers faced a stiff challenge of their own hosting the Miami Missiles.
The Snakes claimed a 26-19 lead midway through the 3rd Quarter, and held off the
Missiles from there. Miami turned the ball over on downs inside Sacramento territory on
three separate occasions in the 2nd Half. The Vipers clinched at least a first place tie in
the Pacific Division.
The Cleveland Commandos avenged last week’s loss to the Memphis Shock by turning
the tables on their hosts with a comeback victory of their own. Memphis held a 27-14
lead late in the 3rd Quarter on the strength of a pair of interception returns for
touchdowns, but Cleveland QB Fred Kelly threw two 4th Quarter TD passes, from 71
and 26 yards to take a 31-27 lead. In a last minute desperation drive, the Shock drove as
far as the Cleveland 7 yardline, but ultimately failed to convert on 4th and Goal from the
12.
Finally the New York Vendetta snapped a seven game losing streak with a severe
thrashing of the LA Paladins. The Vendetta turned a close 13-10 halftime score into a 30-
10 blowout with a balanced offensive attack and a stingy defense.
