TUFF Week 6
Ancient QB Tommy Brickster threw his 4th touchdown pass of
the game to put the San Diego Smoke in front of the Chicago
Skyline 44-41 midway through the 4th Quarter. Just a few
minutes later OLB David Mapes sealed the Smoke’s stunning first
win of the season with a 68 yard interception return for a
touchdown. After returning once again to the helm of the team he
will always be associated with just over a week ago, Brickster
helped San Diego to a huge upset win over the defending TUFF
champions. In the team’s first five games, the Smoke totaled only
45 points, going 0-5 in the process. This week, with the help of a
couple of defensive scores, San Diego eclipsed that in one game,
outscoring Chicago 20-0 in the 4th Quarter on the way to a 54-41
win. Skyline QB Chad Oxford threw for 444 yards and 4 TDs,
but his 4 Ints proved costly.
In British Columbia, the Lynx continue to surprise their opponents
and to keep their fans entertained with thrilling finishes. This week
BC blew a 10 point second half lead when the Seattle Monsoon
tied the game at 16-16 in the 3rd Quarter. Then late in the 4th
Quarter, the Lynx capitalized on a 32 yard pass from QB Justin
Rivera to WR Mark Chambliss to set up K Deangelo Castera’s
game winning field goal with 0:22 left. BC climbed to a
Continental Conference second-best 4-2 with the win.

The Wisconsin Wreckers put together their best game of the young season today with a 31-0
pasting of the Miami Missiles. The Wreckers defense held Miami to 11 first downs and 3
turnovers in pitching the shutout, and winning for the first time at home. Wisconsin led 24-0 at
the half and coasted to an easy victory.
In another shutout, the Baltimore Battalion demolished the winless LA Paladins, 33-0 in a
rematch of S012’s United Conference Championship game. The Paladins couldn’t run and
couldn’t pass against the green machine. Esposito put out yet another habitual big day passing
the football, passing for 360 yards, 3 TDs and 2 Ints.
Finally the Pitt Bulls squashed the Memphis Shock 29-3 on the strength of five interceptions by
five different players.
Player of the Week:
QB Tommy Brickster 23-58 375 yards 4TD 1 Int
San Diego Smoke
Brickster’s presence along with his arm helped propel the Smoke to a surprising first
win of the S013 season. The fact that they won a game wasn’t the surprising thing,
more like how and against whom. It makes you wonder why they keep trading this
guy away.
Team of the Week:
Baltimore Battalion
Absolutely dominated yet another team this week, this time the unlucky team to be
dominated was the Paladins. At this point you have to wonder if the Battalion will
ever lose again.
Looking Ahead
New York Vendetta (3-3) @ Pittsburgh Bulls (5-1)
The Vendetta has fallen two weeks in a row now, and they will be hard pressed to reverse that trend against one of the best teams in the league.
Boston Attack (3-3) @ Seattle Monsoon (3-3)
Both teams got off to fast starts but have severely cooled off in recent weeks. This one could figure in some tiebreakers at the end of the season.
Wisconsin Wreckers (3-3) @ Sacramento Vipers (5-1)
Wisconsin is coming off their best effort of the season, but they will need to better that effort if they hope to upset the Snakes.
