TUFF Week 7
The last time the Baltimore Battalion lost a regular season game was back
in S011, in Week 12. A full undefeated season and six more weeks after
that have gone by since. 26 regular season wins in a row, with most of
them full on blowouts, had fans and media wondering aloud if this team
would ever lose another game again. With a road trip to south Florida to
face an unassuming Miami Missiles team, that streak seemed certain to
be extended to 27. After the game was played, it’s hard to tell exactly
what happened, but the streak came to a screeching and violent stop. The
Missiles put the end to that streak and then some, embarrassing the
Battalion, 83-0, and no, that is not a typo. Miami punted once to end their
final possession, and scored on every other possession before that.
Miami’s defense even pitched in with a touchdown of their own for good
measure, and completely shut down Baltimore’s potent offense. The
Missiles had two quarterbacks throw for 4 touchdowns each, and post
perfect passer ratings of 158.3. One still has to wonder what exactly
happened in Miami. Were the teams given the wrong uniforms before the
contest? Were the Battalion players and coaches hitting South Beach a bit
too hard the night before? Was Baltimore looking ahead to next week’s
showdown in Pittsburgh? Or was the pressure of continuing the streak
finally too much to overcome?

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh’s dominating shutout 39-0 win over New York
sets up their matchup with Baltimore with both teams at 6-1 records at
the top of the United Conference. Pitt Bulls QB Joe Monday was efficient
once more, throwing three first half touchdowns against the Vendetta.

Player of the Week:

WR Terry McCord    7 rec 183 yards 4 TD
Wisconsin Wreckers

McCord had a monster day with three other TDs even before his game winning
catch to help beat the Sacramento Vipers.
Team of the Week:

Miami Missiles
Miami would have earned this honor if they beat Baltimore by one, never mind 83.
Looking Ahead

Boston Attack (4-3) @ Miami Missiles (3-4)
It will be interesting to see how the Missiles react to their historic win over the Battalion. Will it be a stepping stone to bigger and better things down the road or
do they suffer a hangover?

Baltimore Battalion (6-1) @ Pittsburgh Bulls (6-1)
The unbelievable win streak is over for the Battalion, but the loss does little to diminish the magnitude of this week’s game in Pittsburgh. It could just make
Baltimore even angrier when it hits the field against the Pitt Bulls.

Chicago Skyline (3-4) @ Las Vegas High Rollers (2-5)
Even with all of Chicago’s struggles this season, after seven weeks the Skyline find themselves in a three way tie for first with Miami and Memphis.

In Sin City, LA QB Ray Booher finally got things going for his Paladins to put LA in front 20-7 at
the half against the High Rollers. After Vegas closed to within six early in the 4th Quarter at 27-21
the Paladins defense stepped up big time with three interception returns for touchdowns in the
final quarter to close the door on Los Angeles’ first win of the season.

In Memphis, the so far pass happy Shock finally turned loose RB Flash Quentin and the running
game, but managed only field goals in a 16-12 loss at home to the San Diego Smoke. San Diego
shook off a terrible performance by QB Tommy Brickster, but RB Lance Fisher scored the game’
s only touchdown to vault the Smoke to their second win in as many weeks.

Finally, the upstart Wisconsin Wreckers stood toe to toe with the Sacramento Vipers on the road
but trailed 27-24 with less than five minutes remaining in regulation with the Vipers deep inside
Wreckers territory. The Wreckers defense stopped RB Tracy Blass twice inside the Wisconsin 3
yardline, and at the 2:00 mark, QB Howard Gatling hit WR Terry McCord on a 69 yard bomb for
a touchdown to give the Wreckers a stunning upset win in Sacramento.
