TUFF Week 4
Blowout central. For the second time in three weeks the TUFF
schedule has yielded mostly games that have been less than
competitive to say the least. Such was the case back in Week 2, and
then again this week, in Week 4. In fact only one of the eight games
on the slate this weekend was decided by a margin of under 16
points.

That one “competitive game” featured a snoozefest between the
winless San Diego Smoke visiting the New York Vendetta. The
Smoke brought with them a hapless offense that managed a grand
total of 191 yards for the game. The only touchdown of the game
came on a 77 yard interception return by S Rodney Davis. That put
San Diego ahead 10-3 in the 3rd Quarter and it appeared that the
Smoke might have a shot at their first win of the season.
Unfortunately for them, the game did not end in the 3rd Quarter.
New York K Jack Benson kicked three second half field goals, with
the go-ahead kick coming with 2:45 left in the 4th Quarter.
Miraculously, and with the help of a 15 yard penalty on the Vendetta
on a key 4th Down, San Diego drove down the field to the New
York 31 but Smoke K Kenny Young was unable to connect on a 48
yard field goal attempt with :21 on the clock.
New York’s United Atlantic brethren all came out victorious as well. Baltimore outlasted the Seattle Monsoon with the
help of 6 turnovers and by forcing the Monsoon to settle for field goals nearly every time they got close enough to
score. This just in, field goals will not beat the Battalion. Also, in Pittsburgh the Bulls mercilessly pounded the defending
champion Chicago Skyline, 68-0. The Pitt Bulls forced an astounding 7 turnovers and QB Joe Monday threw an equally
astounding 5 touchdown passes in the 2nd Quarter alone. With all four of the Atlantic teams winning this week, the
division now holds a 13-3 collective record, with two of those losses coming from against each other.

In the Continental, the Islanders have asserted themselves not only as the favorite in their division, but as the favorite
for the conference as well. Honolulu, by virtue of their 64-19 drubbing of the Missiles in Miami, are now the only team
in the Continental with a winning record, standing at 4-0 with no other team better than 2-2.

Elsewhere it was Wisconsin who won for the second straight week, beating up on the Las Vegas High Rollers, 27-9.
QB Howard Gatling threw for 448 yards and 3 touchdowns. DL Ernest Killings led the defense with 11 tackles and 3
sacks for the Wreckers, who improved to 2-1 on the road this season.
Player of the Week:

RB-WR Tank Smythe      27-112 1 TD rushing
Pittsburgh Bulls                          10-100 1 TD receiving

Smythe has been in the league seemingly forever since way back in S004.
His best seasons may have been in Baltimore, but this season he has been
rejuvenated as an equal running and receiving threat for the Pitt Bulls.
Somebody get the number of the Pitt Bulls’ trainer.
Team of the Week:

Pittsburgh Bulls
As much as other teams out there deserve it in this weekend of blowouts,
how can it not go to the Bulls who utterly destroyed the Skyline, 68-0?
Looking Ahead
Boston Attack (3-1) @ Baltimore Battalion (4-0)
It seems like the Battalion haven’t lost in forever, and indeed they almost haven’t. Baltimore has never lost to Boston at home in a regular season
game.

Memphis Shock (2-2) @ Miami Missiles (2-2)
A game that may have playoff tiebreaker implications down the road. Memphis struggled this week, but a win this week could easily get the Shock
back on track..

New York Vendetta (3-1) @ Sacramento Vipers (3-1)
Another game that could have implications at the end of the season. Can New York find an offensive answer to QB Rodney White?
